We lit a fire pit in the garden and had warm chocolate milk for snack to keep us warm. We sang around the fire; London's Burning, as we have been learning about keeping safe and fire safety. We sang in a 'round' and were accompanied by Mrs Martiello on the recorder. We also sang some of our Christmas songs. What a lovely afternoon 🔥

Just some of the ways that we support Literacy through play at pre-school. We scribe and act out stories, learn to handle books carefully and turn the pages. We look at different types of texts including magazines, recipes and catalogues. We like to sequence stories and guess how they may end. We write for purpose, using labels to name our pictures and models. Our outdoor environment is rich in print and mark making tools too.

w/e 15th November

Following one of our children's interests in ball games, we made a pool table to use outside. Firstly we needed to measure the tables and then work out how to attach the pockets. We then thought about finding some suitably sized balls and cues. The whole experience led to lots of maths, understanding of the world and personal and social development.

Lots of outdoor learning this week. Clearing the leaves in the garden and making cement to build walls and enclosures. We made sure our chickens were well fed in the cold weather. Inside, we acted out the 'Whatever Next' story which led to lots of geographical investigations and discussion

w/e Friday 11th Oct

As part of our Harvest Celebrations, we took our collection of food to the Bedford Food Bank.

Thank you for your kind donations.

Our chickens; Jessie, Elsa and Dora were able to wander 'free range' for the first time this week and the children thought about how to look after living creatures and be kind to others.

We enjoyed a visit from Mrs Searle's dog, Coco, too. What wonderfully caring week.

Another exciting new addition to our outdoor environment... a great big tractor tyre, kindly donated by Windmill Christmas Tree Farm at Stevington. It was VERY heavy and the children enjoyed watching it being rolled down to a space in the garden. They will begin to use it for climbing and hide n seek. What a great resource to develop their risk taking and all areas of their development, specifically their physical development.

The children helped to clean the tyre, using scrubbing brushes and compared it to the size of the toy tractor wheels.  When it was clean the children decorated it themselves with chalk!

The arrival of the tractor tyre encouraged the children to create tyre marking pictures outside.

What fun!
